Launched in 2001, with the first batch of scholarships awarded in 2002, the aim of the Malaysia Australia Colombo Plan Commemoration (MACC) Scholarships is to provide Malaysian and Australian students the opportunity to experience diverse cultures through sponsored education. The MACC is built on the spirit of the Colombo Plan which enabled some 4,000 young Malaysians to study in Australia from the 1950s until the 1980s. The MACC Scholarships take the Colombo Plan a step further by providing a two-way exchange of scholars between Malaysia and Australia. The scholarships include full or partial waivers of tuition fees and are offered to Malaysian and Australian students to undertake their education at universities and institutions of higher learning in each other’s countries.
The MACC Scholarship Programme is spearheaded and coordinated by The Malaysian Australian Alumni Council (The MAAC), a national organisation for Malaysian Alumni Associations of Australian Universities and other institutions of higher learning, with the support of the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and the Australian Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE).
Since its inception in 2001, more than 250 students have been awarded the MACC Scholarships worth more than RM5 million.
Scholarship Contributions
